Happiest states in the U.S.; where does Ohio rank?

CLEVELAND, Ohio — When you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands … and, apparently, don’t live in Ohio.

Residents of the Buckeye State aren’t the most miserable in the nation. But Ohio ranks in the bottom half of a survey of the Happiest States in America released by WalletHub, a personal-finance website.

Ohio comes in at No. 37 in WalletHub’s “happiness” research, which uses 30 metrics, with three key factors receiving the most weight: emotional and physical well-being, work environment, and community and environment. The survey ranks each metric on a scale of 1 to 100, with 100 being the best score.

The survey gives Ohio an overall score of 47.77. It finished 35th for emotional and physical well-being, 31st for work environment and 34th for community and environment.

Utah finished first with an overall score of 69.79. While it ranked 16th for emotional and physical well-being, it finished first overall for work environment and community and environment.

After Utah, the next 10 states are Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Connecticut, California, Florida, Idaho and Nebraska.

The bottom 10 states are Oklahoma, New Mexico, Alaska, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Louisiana, with West Virginia finishing last.
