Game and Fish issued one license by lottery in Unit B1, one in B3, two in B4 and one in B5.
BISMARCK — The North Dakota Game and Fish Department earlier this week announced it had allocated six bighorn sheep licenses for the 2023 hunting season – one more than last year.
Game and Fish issued one license in Unit B1, one in B3, two in B4 and one in B5. In addition, one license, as authorized under North Dakota Century Code, was auctioned in May by the Midwest Chapter of the Wild Sheep Foundation, from which all proceeds are used to enhance bighorn sheep management in North Dakota.
According to Randy Meissner, licensing manager for Game and Fish in Bismarck, the auction recipient hasn’t been determined yet, but the five North Dakota hunters to draw the once-in-a-lifetime licenses beat long odds, as a record 20,290 applicants applied for North Dakota bighorn sheep licenses this year.
Here are this year’s North Dakota bighorn sheep license recipients:
- Connor Folkers, Watford City.
- James Grasl, Dickinson.
- Carter Honeyman, Regent.
- Kevin Lee, Beulah.
- Tanya Novotny, Wyndmere.
