Indiana as Agtech Innovation Hub? New Study Says It’s on the Horizon.

INDIANAPOLIS – A new study shows that Indiana is an emerging agtech innovation hub after agbioscience job postings multiplied nearly sevenfold since 2017.

The TEConomy Partners study found the industry is growing within the broader Indiana economy. Economic development initiative AgriNovus Indiana sees the development as a step in the right direction for the not-for-profit’s mission.

Hoosier agbioscience companies have posted over 6,700 tech jobs since 2015 with Industrial engineering, technologies and technicians being the top roles.

The report says there is a solid base for future growth, citing the pipeline of tech startups, university development and research and the companies and industries are established and growing in the state.

“The agbioscience economy is the only economy in the world that touches every person on the planet given it centers on food,” AgriNovus President and CEO Mitch Frazier said in a news release. “Given Indiana’s strength in agbioscience and its history of success in technology, significant opportunity exists to further unite these two industries to build the next chapter of Indiana’s economy.”

The study also gave AgriNovus several recommendations, like educational and awareness building campaigns to further grow the state as a hub.

The full study, called “The Intersection of Agbioscience and Tech,” can be found on the AgriNovus website.
