Known for its deep blue water, sandy beaches, and towering sand dunes, Lake Michigan has always been a favorite for those living in the state. And now, those across the United States are starting to take a keen interest in the location.
According to a news release, Lake Michigan ranks second on the list of most picturesque landscapes in America. The research, conducted by Storyboards, analyzed the number of Instagram hashtags used at each location to determine which spots were most picturesque.
Lake Michigan, with a hashtag count of 2,788,904, placed second, following Lake Tahoe. Lake Michigan is the third-largest lake in the United States and the fifth largest in the world. It stretches 118 miles across at its widest point and is 307 miles long, according to Indiana’s Lake Michigan Programs.
Lake Tahoe took first place with 2,986,225 Instagram hashtags. Located on the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is known for its clear waters. It is one of the most pure bodies of water with 99.94% purity.
Clearwater Beach, located in Florida, ranked third with a total of 1,298,877 hashtags. The beach is known for its powdery, white sand that comes from quartz from the Appalachian Mountains.
Other locations on the list include Lake Superior in fourth place and Lake Ontario in fifth place.
