EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Big Ten Conference has announced that the 2023 season and home opener for the Michigan State football team against Central Michigan has been moved up a day to Friday, Sept. 1 in Spartan Stadium. A kickoff time and the TV network broadcasting the game will be released at a later date.
Michigan State will have a total of seven home games in 2023: Central Michigan (Sept. 1), Richmond (Sept. 9), Washington (Sept. 16), Maryland (Sept. 23, Homecoming), Michigan (Oct. 21), Nebraska (Nov. 4) and Penn State (Nov. 25).
This marks the ninth time in the past 13 years that Michigan State will open the season with a Friday night game in East Lansing, and the second under fourth-year head coach Mel Tucker. It also marks the 11th time since 2011 that MSU will open on a Friday night. Last season, the Spartans beat Western Michigan in the 2022 season opener, 35-13, on Friday, Sept. 2 in East Lansing.
