Scammers Use Phony Wisconsin Dispatch Number to Target Wisconsinites

Scammers are at it again, but this time they are pretending to be from the Wisconsin State Police Department.

The DATCP and Department of Administration have received numerous reports of residents receiving calls from the Wisconsin State Police dispatch number, (608) 266-7700.

The caller then impersonates a police officer, stating there is a warrant for the individual’s arrest.

The Scammer warns their target not to contact local authorities and then demands payment.

The DATCP and DOA remind residents that law enforcement entities at all levels will never make calls to threaten citizens with warrants or arrests.

Additionally, they will never demand payment over the phone.

If you receive a call similar to this, you are encouraged to hang up and report the call to ConsumerProtection.wi.gov.

If you are concerned about the legitimacy of the call, you can always hang up, and call the Department directly.
