Forest Park’s newest restaurant, The Key Bistro, is open now inside the Missouri History Museum. The café hones in on the heritage of our city by showcasing some fabulous French-inspired fare.
The restaurant is led by chef Kevin Green – formerly the executive chef at Kreis’ Steakhouse & Bar in Ladue – and restaurant operator Pierre Chambrin II – previously the manager at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar in Frontenac. Chambrin II says everything on the menu is made in-house using high-quality, thoughtful ingredients. “That’s something that we really pride ourselves on,” Chambrin II says. “There’s no secret recipe, it’s just using those top-shelf ingredients – using the best cream you can find, doing it the right way.”
An abbreviated grab-and-go menu is available beyond The Key Bistro’s regular dining hours and consists of sandwiches like the caprese baguette (tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil pesto, balsamic reduction), plus simple snacks and drinks. The restaurant will open for Sunday brunch starting Sept. 10. “That will be a music-infused brunch,” Chambrin II says. “Chef and I are working on the menu now.”
According to Sam Moore, managing director of public history for the Missouri Historical Society, The Key Bistro is just the beginning of several big changes at the museum. Some of these developments include new St. Louis-centric exhibits, improvements to the visitor experience, a north plaza renovation and a new gift shop launch.
But right now, Moore invites guests to experience a new side to the museum by visiting The Key Bistro. “We want you to come and learn – we want you to enjoy digging into St. Louis history and leave with some fascinating things that you didn’t know before you came to us,” Moore says. “We also want you to enjoy your time here, and a key part of that is a delicious meal or snack, cup of coffee or glass of wine or beer [at] The Key Bistro.”
