Ukraine war: Over 20 Russian generals killed on front, Japanese intelligence says

The specific number is considered quite large, according to a Nikkei article – Where are the “hits” of the Ukrainians attributed to Russian generals

More than 20 generals of the Russian army have been killed since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, as reported by the Nikkei news agency , citing information from the Japanese intelligence services that emerged in cooperation with the US and European countries.

Kiyofumi Iwata , former chief of staff of Japan’s ground defense forces, said that number is too high. For example, in the USA, in cases of combat, there were almost no cases of death of high-ranking officers.

According to one version of the publication, the Ukrainian military was able to attack the Russian generals by tracking the fingerprints of their mobile phones. Iwata attributes the large number of generals killed to the Ukrainians’ superiority in cyberwarfare, “which allows us to learn the position of military leaders, as well as the Russian tactics of sending generals to the front.”

According to another version, the “strikes” on Russian generals were directed by informants of the Ukrainian side in the occupied regions of Donbass, said a high-ranking Japanese intelligence official.

Another point that has become evident in the last year, the publication writes, is the “inferiority” of Russian military weapons.

In August 2022, British military intelligence reported that at least 10 Russian generals had died during the war in Ukraine.
