US Ambassador to Serbia: Kosovo agreements must be implemented

Agreements on Kosovo, including the one on the Community of Serb-Majority Municipalities, must be implemented, US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill said on Wednesday, adding that the US wants to participate in the implementation process.

The US wants to be part of the process and guarantee the implementation of the agreement’s results, Hill said, adding that it is clear that people in Serbia are concerned about who will guarantee the agreements.

“We should return to the fundamental question of the future of the Serbian community in Kosovo, because they need to know what their future is. The fundamental question is to deal with what comes from the original Brussels agreement.

This is CMS. It absolutely must be implemented if we expect anyone to have confidence in future agreements,” Hill said on K1 television.

“I am not saying that the Franco-German proposal is against the Brussels agreement, they are connected. The notion that the previous agreement should be implemented is part of that proposal,” the US ambassador added.

“We also have the Washington agreement that was committed to the economy, to ensure that Belgrade and Pristina could solve some problems and directly affect people’s lives,” he said.

Hill believes that the deadline for the formation of the JCC and the implementation of the Franco-German agreement is realistic and that the JCC could be formed by the summer, adding that the Franco-German proposal could be implemented by the end of the year.

“I think the proposal is positive and can be implemented,” Hill said, adding that the US fully supports the Franco-German proposal and everything the EU has done.
